Vacant properties are a costly and dangerous problem for many cities in the rust belt. This analysis used a combination of physical characteristics such as soil type, slope, and land cover with other metrics like social vulnerability, location of food deserts, cost surface analysis and least cost paths, and solar radiation analysis to find the best alternate uses of vacant properties in Youngstown, Ohio. The alternate uses would utilize permaculture practices to minimize the amount of ongoing cost to the city.
