Canopy, vegetation and green space as classified from orthophotography, using the Enhanced RGB Vegetation Index (Themistocleous 2019, DOI:10.1117/12.2532748). The study area is my hometown of Thessaloniki, in northern Greece.
The purpose of the creating this map was to evaluate the ERGBVI regarding its performance in urban environments (for personal, empirical use, and not in an academic context). I checked it against Ground Truth manually, and observed a decent performance, with the exception of shadows: these often tend to be classified as vegetation, which is a consistent problem with other indices I tried as well. Any suggestion on the issue would be more than welcome!
