Land Unit Delineation

In Ghana, rapid urbanization and agricultural expansion are encroaching upon savannahs, woodlands, and forests. With an already established link between deforestation, urbanization, and agricultural expansion, integrated decision units aims to provide spatially explicit depictions of landscape attributes and patterns, and ensure precise and informed land use planning particularly in areas lacking an existing land parcel system. The Integrated Decision Unit also aims to improve land parcels to facilitate efficient land use decisions.

Land units, also known as land-mapping units, represent distinct areas with unique qualities influencing their suitability for various land uses. The homogeneity of the land unit is determined by land properties or attributes which includes land cover and drainage data. Delineation of land units is developed for both the rural and developed area before the process of land suitability analysis.

The Integrated Decision Unit provides spatially explicit insights into refining land units and contributes to a more sustainable and informed approach to land use decisions in the country as a whole.
