This StoryMaps project documents and discusses the urban heat island and its effects on cities, using Phoenix as a prime example. The map utilises different types of GIS data to map different trends, such as urbanisation over a given area, and correlating that with the urban heat island, and direct effects such as the amount of heat radiated at night, as well as socioeconomic trends and how they parallel heat-vulnerable infrastructure and development.
