This project demonstrates how publicly available LiDAR data (from elevation.org) can be processed with pure Python to derive standard scientific metrics like:
Digital Terrain Model (DTM) — ground elevation
Digital Surface Model (DSM) — top of canopy/vegetation
Canopy Height Model (CHM) = DSM – DTM
From the CHM, we extract mean/max canopy height and height distribution—key indicators of rainforest maturity and biodiversity.
