I started this project by accessing the USGS Earth Explorer data for the Colorado River Delta GIS, focusing on satellite imagery from both 2007 and 2022. Then, using supervised classification techniques, I analyzed the imagery to categorize the land cover types—sand, bare ground, vegetation, and water—and assigned unique colors to represent each. Thoughtful design was key to ensuring the map could clearly convey changes over time, such as the increase or decrease in vegetation. Furthermore, we can see how multiple restoration projects have greatly increased the amount of vegetation in this area. This map really tells a story about the transformation of the landscape over a period of time.
