In this map, I overlayed earthquake and GPS velocity data from the USGS onto the Western US, as well as outlined California with a border.

The earthquake projections show where they are most common in this geographical area, and the green GPS velocities show the speed and direction of movement that Earth's surface is moving due to tectonic activity.
