DEGURBA (Degree of Urbanisation) is a classification developed by the European Union and used by other international organizations to categorize geographic areas based on their population density and spatial continuity. It generally distinguishes three types of areas:
Urban areas (Cities) – Highly populated areas with a high concentration of inhabitants and economic activities.
Intermediate areas (Towns and suburbs) – Medium population density, often located on the outskirts of large cities.
Rural areas (Rural areas) – Low population density, open spaces with little built-up continuity.
This classification is mainly used for statistical analyses, spatial planning, and public policy development.
