This project used peer-reveiwed articles to define the habitat for the chosen example species, Monotropa uniflora. These parameters were input to the QGIS Model Builder function to synthesize data in Washington State to output the areas of ideal habitat. The above infographic shows the model process. The ideal habitat includes symbiosis with trees in the Quercus genus, so genera-level research-grade data from iNaturalist was utilized to identify habitat. Total habitat area was then overlaid with research-grade observations of M. uniflora from iNaturalist data to confirm habitat and sightings as well as identify areas that may contain yet unsighted specimen.
