Suitable Bobcat Habitats in Vermont

This map was part of a scenario lab for my Intermediate GIS course.

To create this layout, I:

  • Processed Elevation, Streams, and Land Use layers using tools such as Slope, Euclidean Distance, and Reclassify to make them analysis-ready

  • Rescaled all layers using the Rescale by Function tool to a common scale for comparison

  • Combined layers using Weighted Sum tool to create Habitat, Food, and Security sub models, then merged them into a Final Suitability layer

  • Used Locate Regions and Cost Connectivity tools to define optimal areas based on spatial criteria and visualize connection costs

The final result is a a high quality map displaying the six habitat areas in need of protection and a corridor path that is most optimal for connection.

Tools used

ArcGIS ProGeocoding and Weighted suitability models.
