Suitable EV Charging Sites Analysis

This project involved conducting a spatial analysis to identify suitable locations for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Istanbul. By utilizing geographic data layers such as road networks, land use, and population density, the analysis determined areas with high demand and optimal accessibility. The goal was to support sustainable urban mobility by pinpointing strategic locations that can facilitate the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in Istanbul, ensuring efficient infrastructure deployment."

Criteria Used for the Analysis:

  • Population Density: Areas with higher population densities were prioritized, as they are likely to have a higher demand for EV charging stations.

  • Shopping Malls: Locations near shopping malls were selected, as they are high-traffic areas where people tend to park for extended periods, providing an ideal opportunity for charging.

  • Roads: Proximity to major roads and highways was considered, ensuring that charging stations are easily accessible to a broad range of users.

  • Income Rates: Higher-income areas, which are more likely to adopt electric vehicles, were favored for station placement.

  • Transportation Stations: Locations near public transportation hubs, such as metro and bus stations, were selected to ensure accessibility for commuters who may also use EVs.

  • Petrol Stations: Existing petrol stations were considered as they are established hubs for vehicle fueling, making them convenient sites for adding EV charging stations.

  • Park Areas: Public parks were included, as they attract visitors who often stay for extended periods and may benefit from nearby EV charging stations.

  • Green Areas: Green spaces were prioritized to align the infrastructure with sustainability goals and to cater to residents who prefer eco-friendly zones.

  • Slope: Terrain slope was considered, as areas with steep inclines were excluded from the analysis to avoid challenges in vehicle operation and charging station installation.

  • Land Values: Higher land value areas, which generally have greater commercial and residential demand, were identified as suitable for EV charging stations.

This analysis ensures that the identified locations are optimal for supporting the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in Istanbul.
