TOPOGRAPHY OF GOMBE STATE, NIGERIA.

Gombe State is a state in north-eastern Nigeria, bordered to the north and northeast by the states of Borno and Yobe respectively, to the west by Bauchi State, and to the south by Taraba and Adamawa States. It was created from part of Bauchi State in October 1996. The state's capital is Gombe. it has a diverse topography that includes:

  • Mountains: The south-eastern part of the state is mountainous, with the Muri Mountains extending into the southern areas.

  • Hills: The terrain is undulating and hilly in the southeast, contributing to the scenic landscape of the region.

  • Plains: The central, northern, northeastern, western, and northwestern parts of Gombe State are characterized by flat, open plains.

This varied topography influences the state's climate, vegetation, and land use patterns.

The topography of Gombe was represented using a static map designed using QGIS, presented and It's designed to be printed on A2 paper and uses the Minna/UTM Zone 32N coordinate system (EPSG:26332).

The map includes several features:

  • Political boundaries: It clearly delineates the state boundary of Gombe and the boundaries of its Local Government Areas (LGAs).

  • Terrain: The map uses contour lines to show elevation, indicating highlands and variations in terrain.

  • Hydrography: It shows water bodies like rivers and possibly swamps.

  • Transportation: Road and railway networks are marked.

  • Infrastructure: Airports and towns, including the state and LGA capitals, are located on the map.

  • Land cover: Forest areas are indicated.

A legend explains the symbols used for these features. The map's scale is 1:500,000. Neighboring states like Bauchi and Taraba are also partially shown for geographical context.
