This is a map of the flood risk of Windhoek and its surrounding areas using QGIS.
This project was inspired by the methodology from the journal “Flood hazard assessment and mapping using GIS integrated with multi-criteria decision analysis in Upper Awash River Basin, Ethiopia.”
By combining rainfall, slope, elevation, drainage density, proximity to streams, soil texture, and land use/land cover data, I applied a multi-criteria approach to identify areas most vulnerable to flooding.
Projects like this show how GIS and spatial analysis can support better urban planning, disaster preparedness, and climate resilience in Namibia and beyond.
While every effort was made to ensure accuracy, this map is based on publicly available datasets and should be viewed as a general representation rather than a detailed hydrological or engineering survey.
📝 I’ll also be sharing an article detailing how I created the map and my key findings. Feel free to check it out and share your thoughts!
