This map was created as part of coursework for the Water Resource Applications GIS graduate-level course at the University of South Florida. In this scenario, my goal was to identify which neighborhoods in Tampa, Florida, were most and least suitable for a new stormwater drainage park based on the seven provided criteria. These criteria were a mix of physical and socioeconomic variables which were intended to maximize the benefits of a new park by prioritizing areas with higher populations, fewer existing drainage ponds, higher summer land surface temperatures, etc.
To do this, I standardized each criterion and assigned it a weight according to its priority. I then overlaid the weighted criteria, defined by Census Block Groups, to create the final aggregate result. This map ranks each Census Block Group on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the most suitable locations for a new park (shown in dark blue). My analysis identified these areas as providing the maximum benefit to residents based on the seven criteria.
