This map is part of a larger project looking at sea surface temperature in the Gulf of Mexico and its impact on the frequency of hurricane formation. Growing up in Houston, Texas hurricanes were a part of late-summer life. But now, hurricane season is lasting longer and hurricanes are growing stronger. The increase in ocean temperatures is a direct consequence of climate change, and the larger project will take a look into these relationships.
