Ventura County Housing Affordability

This project analyzed housing affordability in Ventura County, California, using a multicriteria spatial analysis approach. U.S. Census Bureau data at the block group level (2018) was used to evaluate median household income (MHI), median gross rent, and median monthly owner costs. The study calculated the percentage of income spent on housing (POIH) and compared patterns between renter-occupied households and those with mortgages. Data was spatially filtered to Ventura County and classified to visualize relationships between income and housing cost burden. Choropleth maps were created to display MHI and POIH for both renters and homeowners, and correlation analysis (Pearson Correlation Coefficient) was conducted to assess relationships between variables. Results indicated that lower-income households with mortgages were more likely to spend a higher percentage of income on housing compared to renters, highlighting key affordability challenges.
