Bike Safety in a L.A. County City: LHH

Bike Safety in a Los Angeles County City: La Habra Heights

In most Los Angeles County cities, transportation is important and when it comes to those who use a Bike, safety is important for this minority group.

Looking at the city of La Habra Heights, safety for bike riders would be an important issue. The city shows few Bikeways and none of these passes through the city itself. Major roads (Hacienda Blvd. and N. Harbor Blvd., etc.) are also not bike friendly and are heavy in car traffic.

Those taking the Bikeways in the adjacent L.A. County cities would benefit from safer conditions. For one, the Bikeways would provide designation for travel. Those paths would also provide less isolation from other people in case somebody needs assistance, as La Habra Heights has no amenities other than a City Hall or Fire Department. (Therefore, less people around other than passing motorists.) Lastly, no Bikeway is located inside the city and also the city’s “dark skies” ordinance prohibits any streetlights which would make traveling at night a safety issue. A point to note is that along with not having any streetlights in La Habra Heights, but they also have narrow hilly roads, and no sidewalks, which also add to safety concerns.

One more benefit to using the Bikeways is being closer to others, many streetlights, and a good (maintained) pathway, bike riders could also benefit from easier access to some recreational spaces. Some Bikeways almost take you up to or almost through these recreational green spots.

In closing, those riding a bike should avoid the city of La Habra Heights where it would be safer to traverse elsewhere in L.A. County.

NOTE: The Streetlights data seem to be incomplete. The city of Whittier (to the left of LHH) definitely has streetlight throughout their city. For some reason, the streetlight data was not included, incomplete, or was missing in the data acquired on the site.
