This project is based on the design of action in Sierra Bermeja (Málaga, Andalusia, south Spain). In this province, in September 2021, a fire occurred that burned more than 8000 hectares more than 8000 hectares, most of them classified as forest area.
The area's biodiversity has been evaluated, so that this variable can determine its ecological value. This information is very useful intrinsically, but also for the design of the next restoration and/or reforestation plan, being able to decide which species of the vegetation series have to be selected for its design. In order to know the biodiversity of the area, the Shannon index has been used, calculated thanks to the data collected in the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF).
With this information it is possible to know the average biodiversity of the study area, which presents a Shannon index with an average value of 1.91. This value could be interpreted as “typical”, in that it is within the common biodiversity ranges of ecosystem studies.
