Exercise 4abc

The goal of this exercise is to build a geodatabase and create features. I had to convert shapefiles to geodatabase feature classes, map x,y points, establish an attribute domain, configure snapping options, create a line feature, and enter attribute data. To achieve these goals I used geoprocessing tools, snapping function, and modify feature function. In the exercise 4c the objective was to; split polygons, merge polygons, and modify lines and points. I was required to use the snapping tool, and vertex snapping to successfully split a section on the map into two. In order to modify lines and points on the map I needed to reveal vertices and edit.

This exercise could be applied in an environmental aspect by being used in water treatment plants and environmental planning. Having a map that displays water lines, water wells, fire hydrants, valves, and water pressure zones would be essential when an emergency take place. If water mains are to get broken or burst having a map of where all water mains go and are connected to, would help an emergency planning team.

I could also apply an exercise similar to this in a contamination incident. In this case that there is a major ground contamination you can easily look back to understand what water zones, water lines, and wells may be at risk for contamination. You can also see what specific zone will be effected the earliest.
