This spatial project presents a Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) map designed to evaluate vegetation cover, health, and spatial distribution within the Danube Delta protected area—one of Europe’s most biodiverse and ecological sensitive wetlands.
July represents the peak growing season in the Danube Delta, providing optimal conditions for assessing maximum biomass density and vegetation vigor. Utilizing multispectral satellite imagery captured in July 2025 by the Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission, the analysis quantifies photosynthetic activity and wetland biomass by calculating the normalized ratio between Near-Infrared (NIR) and Red spectral bands. The results offer a detailed snapshot of deltaic ecosystem dynamics, capturing peak summer conditions across aquatic environments, reed beds, riparian forests, and agricultural zones.
