Developed an interactive web map for Berkeley County, South Carolina displaying school attendance zone boundaries and school locations for the 2026–2027 academic year. Built using Esri ArcGIS Experience Builder and published through the county's GIS department, the map serves as a public resource for families, administrators, and community members to identify school assignments and board representation.
Key components include:
Color-coded attendance zone boundaries distinguishing between elementary, intermediate, primary, middle, and high school zones across the county, with clearly labeled school names directly on the map
School location point markers displayed countywide, allowing users to visually identify individual campuses
Address/school name/zone search functionality enabling families to look up attendance zones by home address, school name, school zone, or district name
School Zone Boundaries Panel:
A toggleable School Zone Boundaries panel allows users to switch between multiple zone layer views including:
2025–26 Elementary, Intermediate, and Primary School Zones
2025–26 Middle School Zones
2025–26 High School Zones
2026–27 Elementary, Intermediate, and Primary School Zones (upcoming)
2026–27 Middle School Zone (upcoming)
2026–27 High School Zone (upcoming)
School Board Districts
This gives families the ability to compare current and upcoming zone boundaries side by side as redistricting takes effect
School Board Members Panel:
Activating the School Board layer triggers a dynamic side panel listing all 8 School Board members by district (Districts 1–8), populated from the attribute table with linked official headshots and biography URLs
Clicking a board member's name highlights and zooms the map to their specific School Board district boundary
Each entry includes a Biography button linking to the member's official biography page, managed through hyperlinks stored in the feature layer's attribute table
School Location Pop-ups & Attribute Table:
Clicking any school marker opens a detailed pop-up displaying key school information pulled directly from the feature layer's attribute table, including:
School name, street address, city, state, and zip code
Grade range, school type, school district number, and school district representative
Principal name and telephone number
A School Website Link for direct access to the school's official page
A School Name attribute table at the bottom of the map lists all schools with their associated district, allowing users to click any row to highlight and zoom to that school on the map
School District Attribute Table:
A School District attribute table lists all 8 districts alongside their respective board member names, giving users a quick reference to cross-check board representation
Selecting a district row highlights and zooms the map to that district's boundary and simultaneously highlights the corresponding board member in the side panel, creating a fully linked and interactive experience
Want to Learn More Panel:
A collapsible sidebar button opens a "Want to Learn More?" panel embedding the Berkeley County School District's website, featuring:
A header image and the district's tagline: "Creating a future we dare to imagine"
