🎯 Topic
Spatial analysis of Burglary patterns in Leeds (2010-14) using point and polygon data to identify statistically significant hot and cold spots.
🎯 Aims
To assist West Yorkshire Police in understanding spatial clustering of burglaries using Getis-Ord Gi* analysis, comparing point-based and polygon-based approaches for better resource allocation.
💻 Technologies Used
ArcGIS Pro for spatial analysis and mapping
Getis-Ord Gi* statistical method
Natural Breaks (Jenks) classification method
Euclidean distance measurements
🗺️ Output
Four professional maps showcasing:
1. Raw burglary rates at Output Area level
2. Hot/cold spot analysis of Output Areas
3. Point-based burglary rates by postcode
4. Hot/cold spot analysis of postcode points
💡 Conclusion
Analysis revealed significant clustering of high burglary rates in central Leeds, with distinct cold spots in peripheral areas. The dual approach (point and polygon) provided robust validation of spatial patterns for evidence-based policing strategies.
