Title: Classification Schemes using 2011 population data, Brandon, MB
This map shows how the population of Brandon changes depending on the classification method used. All four maps use the same 2011 population data, but each method—Equal Interval, Standard Deviation, Natural Breaks, and Quantile—divides the numbers in a different way. Because of this, the colors and patterns look different on each map.
The story this map tells is that the way we classify data can change how people understand a map. Even with the same information, different methods can make some areas look more or less populated. This teaches viewers that cartographers must choose classification methods carefully to communicate data clearly and honestly.
