From what has been learned during this Flood Mitigation Report, is that the overall risk of a large portion of properties flooding in St. Peter is very low, but two select areas could use improvement to prevent an approximate 100-year flood. With climate warming, floods and their heights are bound to increase, so flood mitigation must try to stay one step ahead of nature to preserve life and property. It is proposed that MnDOT raise the northbound lane of 169 across from St. Peter North Community Mobile Home Park and either construct a permanent levee or plan a temporary dike at E Walnut St’s entrance to the floodplain in St. Peter.
