I analyzed pharmacy service gaps in Leamington, Ontario by combining existing pharmacy locations with the Ontario Marginalization Index (ON-Marg) to identify where high-need communities are underserved. The work was grounded in Andersen’s Behavioral Model of Health Services Use, translating the framework into measurable spatial variables across ON-Marg dimensions (material resources, age/labour, households/dwellings, racialized & newcomer populations).
Produced a dominant-category choropleth (the leading marginalization dimension per area) using a light-to-dark progression so higher marginalization is visually immediate, and symbolized pharmacies with high-contrast point markers.
Used the results to pinpoint a priority area and justify a recommended site: Talbot Road E, because it sits in high marginalization quintiles (4–5), is currently a service gap (nearest pharmacy > 5 km), and can serve a rural–urban interface where travel barriers matter more for residents facing material deprivation.
