3a: Demographics and Health in Illinois

This project focuses on visualizing key demographic and health statistics in Illinois, with additional data from neighboring states like Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Wisconsin for regional comparison. The map is color-coded to display various data categories, including age, gender, income, and obesity rates, with Illinois as the central focus. Users can sort the information by these variables to explore trends within Illinois, while also comparing them to neighboring states. This analysis offers insights into how factors like income and health vary across different populations in Illinois, helping to inform public health strategies and policy decisions within the state. I would apply this type of analysis to environmental health disparities, particularly focusing on the impact of air and water quality in Illinois. By integrating environmental data, such as pollution levels or access to clean water, with demographic factors like income and age, I could identify communities that are disproportionately affected by environmental hazards. For example, lower-income or older populations may be more vulnerable to poor air quality, leading to higher rates of respiratory issues.
